Local Food Week
Celebrating Alberta’s Bounty
Local Food Week
August 8 to 15, 2021
Celebrate Alberta local food and local food producers! Alberta’s Local Food Week is the ideal time to discover new Alberta food products and meet the many passionate and talented farmers, growers and food makers that call our province home.
More than 40 farmers’ markets will be hosting events or activities on their market day to celebrate. Visit albertalocalfood.com to see what markets are doing and when.
Every August, many of Alberta’s working farms will host open houses through Open Farm Days, inviting you to see first hand how these farms operate. And this year, on Saturday, August 14, the Cochrane Farmers’ Market is planning a special opportunity to see the Market offerings through the eyes of a culinary expert.
Chef Susan Hoy of Flora Foods will be hosting three free tours of the Market grounds, showcasing local producers and food artisans. Each tour will last 45 minutes, with start times of 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. There’s no cost to take part in the tours, but space is limited so best to register on Eventbrite soon!
Each tour participant will receive a special edition collection of recipe cards that Chef Hoy developed exclusively for our inaugural 2019 Local Food Week. These recipes all include ingredients available at the Cochrane market. Tour participants will also be entered to win a prize package of local food items sourced from our market vendors

Meet Chef Susan Hoy
A second career as an Agrologist, (soil, vegetation + water specialist) she created biosoil to rehabilitate natural areas including wetlands and vegetable gardens. Being connected to food again and having a better understanding of nutrition and the link between healthy soil and our personal health gave her a whole new outlook on the environment, the food she was eating and how she was showing up in the world. Currently Susan offers food consulting services for autoimmune conditions, growing Flora Foods Company and her newest project involves innovative vertical farming to create food security in Northern communities.
